Mascoma River Greenway – Where Should the Trails Lead?

March 24, 2010

On the evening of March 23rd 50 Upper Valley residents gathered at City Hall to learn and share their thoughts about plans for the Mascoma River Greenway. Talk of new trail bridges, views of waterfalls, bicyclists, runners, walkers and commuters, paved or gravel surfaces, trailheads and parking lots all came into play as the consulting firm ORW led a public presentation and discussion on future plans to extend the Northern Rail trail through to West Lebanon and beyond. The main focus of the night was to review proposed plans for a 4 -mile long multi-use path and make suggestions for alternative ways to connect to neighborhoods, recreation areas, businesses, and schools along the Greenway corridor. Once completed, the paved multi-use path is expected to be a key spine in the Upper Valley’s non-motorized commuting, recreation and transportation network. ORW consultants stated,” there are many threads of trails currently coming together that provide great opportunity to create a wonderful travel route from north to south”. Attendees provided valuable feedback on connections and opportunities for collaboration.
