Upper Valley Trails Day Events

May 19, 2010

There are many great trails in the Upper Valley that add to the quality of life in this region. Get outside and explore a trail or give back to your community by helping to prepare a trail for summer fun. Throughout the Upper Valley, Trails Groups, Organizations, and Committees will be busy getting trails ready for hiking, biking, horse-back and more. Several fun outings too!

Come out to one of several community events throughout the valley to celebrate trails. (Most events are held June 5th in conjunction with National Trails Day)

Two of these special events include Trek to Taste in Woodstock, and Race to the Top in Bradford, Vt.

As predicted it’s raining this morning ( Saturday June 5th).
Unless the rain is very heavy we will hike out to site and work in the rain. Hopefully it will not be to bad.

The UVMBA is joining forces with the Dartmouth Outing Club Mountain bike club to improve the single track trails at Oak Hill.
Over the coming months single track trails at Oak Hill will be mapped, signed, and eventually included in the long term management plan for Oak Hill.

We have identified a trail project for this Saturday to improve a few wet muddy areas by relocation and or armoring.
The intent is to show Dartmouth College that the mountain biking community is willing to support mountain biking at Oak Hill by providing trail maintenance and by building sustainable trails. This trail care event will be the first of several to be held at Oak Hill this season.

Planning for this event has forced us to announce at the last moment. I hope that at least a few of you can help out this Saturday morning.

Meet At: Fullington field on Rt. 10. This is north of Hanover on the right just past the Dartmouth Organic Farm. If you go by Wilson’s landing you have gone to far.

    Time: 8:30 – 8:45 AM – 15-20 min walk to work site.

The club will supply tools. Be sure to bring gloves, water, and insect repellent.

Please reply to this email if you can help and feel free to call if you have any questions.

    Trail friends,

Trail work on Moose Mountain is postponed from June 5
to June 12. (70% chance of rain on June 5, and few
    people available then.)

If you are able to come June 12, please let me know
so we won’t be tempted to wait for the arrival of
    mythical parties.

Meet at 9AM at the top of Moose Mountain Road.
We’ll walk in together via an incompletely marked
route to the east side of the mountain. There we
will complete a connection between Pasture Road
    and the Baum Conservation Area.

Tools: loppers and bow- or pruning saws. Digging
tools and chainsaws won’t be needed.
